You're right that these are all in Pleuronectidae (right-eyed flatfish) -- I was forgetting how ambiguous a common name like "turbot" is.

For what it's worth, I saw a C-O sole in Laguna last week that had purplish pigmentation in a few spots on its body -- sort of as if it were in the beginning stages of what yours became.
