I've had a 20 hour scuba class. I've made thousands of dives, most between advanced to ridiculously advanced. The greatest fun is exploration. I learn it on my own or read about it, like devotees of many sports do.
If you like classes and you learn best that way, head on. Not everyone is that way though. Some like to explore and learn on their own.
