No extra gear, just a 120 cuft steel and 30 cuft pony. I personally require/demand/desire 100% focus/attention on the object of my dive and my diving environment, leaving no percentage to focus on a diving companion. To paraphrase the quote: "It's my dive, I dive it, and criticism be damned".
As to "drag", I don't do any speed diving, reef to reef, or wreck to wreck, so drag's not an issue. FWIW.
