You're pretty close to Hollywood Divers, which is on Cahuenga just across from Universal. www.hollywoodivers.com. I did advanced and rescue with them and loved them.

My husband actually did basic open water with them, and recommends it. They do kind of a short class, though - one weekend of class/pool, then it's into the ocean. This is great for some folks, and lousy for others; it just depends on your personality.
