Did you get GPS numbers?

When gear gets dropped at the boat, immediately have the GPS store
a way point.

If you don't discover it until later, or don't think to take the
waypoint, you can probably deduce the location for the GPS track
line, if the track buffer hasn't wrapped.

I've recovered stuff both ways. I'd recommend dropping the hook
about 30' upwind of the waypoint. The lost stuff will be right
under the line.
