Deer Creek just around the Point Magu bend is one of my favorite and is probably the closest to you next to LaJenelle Park which can be 'iffy' depending on the westerly swell

Down the coast a bit to Leo Carillo - offers several possibilities for sites depending on surf conditions.

Then County Line (if there are no surfers there), then further down to Point Dume (and Zuma - check recent posts).

For Santa Barbara, my favorite is Mesa Lane which is almost always good (unless the waves are over 3 foot - usually they are ankle slappers) - swim out to Mohawk Reef and follow it east - always something to see.

If you haven't done a beach in SoCal, go to the next 3-R's on August 12 at Point Dume.
