Point Dume / Anacapa Today |
Posted by Walt on August 12, 2006 at 19:58:14: Attended the 3-R's today - 42 people showed up to practice their beach entry and exit skills. It nice to see such a large turnout - and we had great conditions to boot! We were treated to a ride to Point Dume cove compliments of Baywatch and the LA County Lifeguards who staff this valuable service. Point Dume keeps them busy with rescues from the normally strong longshore current found there (once they rescued an entire class of 12). We snorkled at Dume Cove where the water was flat and the vis incredible. No kelp, though - taking a real beating from the warm waters. If the conditions hold, we'll hike over the hill for a day of freediving next weekend.
I spoke with my daughter who was on the Explorer put of Ventura today at Anacapa - water temp was 72 F and vis 50 + feet. She saw a school of batrays while freediving (no wetsuit needed!). Calm conditions on the trip over and all had a great time.
