Posted by scottfiji on August 17, 2006 at 10:36:54: Penny, Sean, Mike, and I had a nice dive at the Ancient Sea Cliffs a few days ago. temp 55, max depth 97ft, 43 minutes. 20-30ft vis. Saw 13 species of nudibranchs, and 7 species of Rockfish, including the following:
Dendronotus Albus, and a few brittle stars
Hopkin's Rose
Tritonia Festiva in the foreground, Sculpin behind it
Flabellina trilineata
Coonstripe Shrimp
Gopher Rockfish What a great dive! Penny was quite cold after the dive, but after an hour she warmed up enough to do a shallow second dive. Sean, thanks for diving down to unstick the anchor. The 2nd dive was at New hope rock. A very nice site, lots of kelp, fish, tons of lobsters, and huge sponges everywhere, which was very strange for a shallow site. Max depth 37ft, 53min, 59 degrees (warmer nearer the surface). thermocline was gradual.
Lobster Madness; I counted around 50 in this crevice
Kelp Rockfish
Very Rare Penny-fish |
