Posted by Jon on August 20, 2006 at 18:29:57: Just returned from a great trip down to Palos Verdes on Frank O's boat. Wow, we hit the jackpot today! We started off with some snorkeling/freediving just off Christmas Tree Cove. The vis was at least 25 feet and probably better, with 65+ degrees on the surface. Frank, Dylan (my 10-year-old) and I had a great time freediving in the kelp and watching a pair of bat rays digging up their lunch. Then we moved to the Avalon for a tank dive. The blue water on the surface gave way to a little green soup in the midwater, but it really opened up again on the wreck. I can't give an accurate estimate on the vis -- it seemed to go on forever -- but it was at least 50 feet. We were buzzed by a couple of nice-sized BSB and we paid respects to the resident lings. It was a little chilly in wetsuits at depth (mid 50s) but our stops were toasty. I can't wait to see the photographic results of the day. Thanks again Frank!
