I believe ankle weights were developed and marketed as a dry suit accessory to counteract lower leg air expansion. Another product was developed and is marketed to solve the same problem: Gator Wraps by Halcyon. These Velcro around the legs from knee to ankle, reducing the amount of expanding air and improving trim. Different product, same intention. Big price difference. Ankle weights go for around 20 bucks, Gator Wraps for around 90 (160 in Australia!). However, finning with original XL ScubaPro Jet Fins, I doubt either product is necessary to maintain proper trim.
