I learned what the favorite food of the California Cone snail is last night. Who knew? It was amazing watching them hunt. Here's some photos from my dive.

Octopus

Baby horn shark

Baby giant Kelpfish. I saw two of these in the southern "critter zone".

Big bad Scorpionfish. "You got a problem with ME???"

Sarcastic Fringehead, who hears "who's at the door honey"

I found a 2nd fringehead. This one bit my hand 5 or 6 times, and then attacked my camera. In this shot, the fringehead eats my lens. His whole mouth is around the camera.

Skeleton Shrimp, less than 1 inch long. These little creatures dance like skeletons!

This group of snails (Conus californicus) is hungry. One of them sees a delicious Polychaete worm.

He makes his move, and lunges for the worm! Will he eat in style tonight?
No, the worm gets away. but when I grab the worm and put it near the snail's mouth, it promptly eats it.

The details:
max depth, 60ft
temp: high 60's above 45ft, 56 below 45ft
waves: small

I hope you enjoyed the photos!
Scott
