Most of the boats on the Kona coast use morings that are close to shore due to the close proximity to the dropoff. Nearly every dive site can be accessed from shore.
There are several dive shops that run two tank trips and also rent gear. Try Jack's Diving Locker or Kona Coast Divers. I recommend the Manta Ray Night Dive as the one boat dive to not miss.
