I'll be driving up to Monterey this week with my girlfriend. We do a lot of hard-core shore diving and photography here in LA together.

I've never been to Monterey. We will probably only do one dive (maybe two) due to the cold water. (diving wet). we will also try to kayak where we can see sea otters (cannery row). a kayak through elkhorn slough might be nice too, right?

anyways, back to my question. if we only do 1 or 2 dives, where should we dive? do we need a reservation? if so, how do we get one? what should we expect for water temps? what is the surf report for this week, and what vis should we expect? is it easy to find a dive shop for fills? do you have a recommendation for a place that gives good HP fills?

from what I read, the places to dive seem to be whaler's cove or monestary north.

we'll probably dive on Thursday, although it may be wednesday or friday.

if anyone wants to come along with us, even better!

thanks alot for answering all the questions, I can be a great dive guide in LA in return.
