At Pt. Lobos, you must enter the water down the Whalers Cove
"launch ramp". Be careful, the lower part of the ramp is very
slippery, and it ends with a six foot drop at about +0 tide line.

Without a boat, you are pretty much limted to diving Whalers Cove,
but it's pretty good (I frequently do a second dive there from
my boat).

There's a bunch of info on sites at http://pt-lobos.parks.state.ca.us/scuba/scuba.shtml
I'd recommend swimming out the sand channel on the surface,
and coming back underwater. The sand channel ends in about 70'.

Be sure to walk up the trail at the end of the parking lot and
have a look at the layout of Whalers and where the sand channel
runs. That sand channel is your friend for swimming on the
surface.
