Thanks for you report, Chris.
A dive buddy with the victim would have provided medical investigators and laypeople alike with much more detailed info relative to what precipitated the accident in the first place not to mention possibly being able ( in most cases with the proper training)to calm the diver and restore order at depth before what sounds like an uncontrolled ascent followed by CAGE. That being said, common sense dictates that you can't do anything for a diver unless he's on the surface. Any report on preexisting physical conditions would help as well.

Part of the problem is that from a computer keyboard we just have no access to info that can possibly be used help prevent a similiar incident in the future other than the obvious - that a dive buddy is an invaluable resource.
