Ask to watch as the tech services your reg and all other equipment. If they won't let you find one that will. Ask a lot of questions. The problem with the pressure gauge happens when water gets in the high pressure fitting and causes the spool to gunk up and stick and the pressure fitting isn't screwed down tight. This is caused by improper or not enough maintenance. The spool on the SPG connection is designed to allow the SPG to swivel without unscrewing itself. It has small o rings at either end which need to be lubricated to function properly. When it sticks, however, continued turning can actually amount to unscrewing the gauge. Unscrew it enough and pressure does the rest. It is dangerous not only because you can lose lots of air fast, but because the SPG becomes a missile if it happens on out of water.
