I've used a VR3 for several years and have been extremely satisfied, but it is not necessarily for everybody. Downsides include: cost, bulk, and weight. On the positive side of the ledger, it is extremely rugged, reliable, and offers incredible flexibility regarding use of multiple gases. On balance, though, it is not something that I would recommend for divers who aren't going to be using helium; there are any number of lighter, cheaper alternatives for folks diving air and nitrox mixes.
