Closer to shore you'll only see sand (and LOTS of it in the water column as well)...some rocks around in about 20 feet. It is usually a super easy entry - check the swell model and outer buoys, though.

I've been told that if you go straight out from the end of the parking lot (by the city street near the day parking exit), you will hit a reef and some good bug diving. Saw a diver come back with some nice ones several years back.
