I'm guessing you farmed the lobster because you did not hold it with a death grip. You need to grab them like you mean to kill them and hold on tight. If they sense any opportunity to get away they will take it.
However do not feel too bad. Almost everyone (including me) who has hunted lobster has made the same mistake. Now that you understand first hand you will do better next time.
