I think the kelp in Malibu is terrible. For instance, there is virtually no kelp at Corral or Escondido. In general, the kelp beds have been decaying both in Malibu and elsewhere for the last several years. There was very little kelp at Santa Barbara Island when I visited several weeks ago, and this was at sites that were reported to be previously kelp covered.
