Having no nerve endings, lobsters do not feel pain nor are they stressed out when caught. Also, due to the lack of claws, spiny lobsters do not use their antennae as defense (not defensive) mechanisms. Larger lobsters have been known to kill smaller males. They also don't have as many breeding years left compared to seven year old males, so it would make more sense to take the big ones and leave the just legal ones alone.
