It's a rich and well managed fishery up there. Why add oil extraction to the mix? Just because it isn't a divesite doesn't mean it should be polluted. I don't think Prince William Sound saw many divers.
As for the local communities, Alaskans are always wanting environmental controls relaxed so they can get more money from the oil companies.
And the Alaska Congressional delegation.. didn't they propose the $941 million "bridge to nowhere" that would have serviced 50 people?
