The Center for Biological Diversity has petitioned to have the black abalone listed under the ESA. The link below is to the adobe acrobat file that contains the petition. Cause of the demise is attributed to sport and commercial overharvesting with the precipitous decline caused by the withering syndrome. The petition list several attributes of climate change as complicating the species recovery. Interesting reading, but being from CBD read it skeptically as good science requires.
