If your buddy hadn't cancelled, was the plan that you were going to leave the boat unattended while you dived? Apart from the rough run to and from the dive site and the presumably marginal conditions at depth, the possibility of a dragging anchor would be one of my main concerns. Tastes differ, but I wouldn't go out if the swell was much over 4 feet.
