Since when conditions are favorable (not now) you'll be coming from out of area, you might like a check out dive at Vet's Park-Redondo Beach- there are things to see- it's a dive site that is used by instructors a lot and can still be a challenge if the surf is up- but not good for bugs. Then talk with the local dive shop in the area about bug sites. I don't hunt, but it seems that bugs are getting more difficult the later the season gets- they are gone or getting smarter by now - maybe do a reconnisance (sp?) trip this year to get the info and the experience on the places you want to try early in the season next year? I think a lot of the successful lobster hunters do that kind of thing- The links mentioned above have a lot of really good info and possible sites, but you need to find rocks for bugs- so look for dives with rocky places like reefs offshore. Just please have a cautious nature about the beach this time of year - it can be wonderful - or a nightmare depending on how the beach is facing and the storms coming in-
