Ken has a different thought. Ken's point is well taken if you are nearing an OOA situation (but your buddy should follow the same rule, ascend and do his / her safety stop also if after a long / deep dive). But for a possible entrapment, then Ken would be absolutely correct - that 3 minutes could save a life. Maybe it 'depends'...

What was the dive plan? and was it executed / followed? at what point in the plan execution are you?

What does NAUI, PADI, GUE or the other cert agencies recommend?
