We generally only lose each other at the beginning of a dive (mainly due to poor vis or a clearing problem) and surface, so no safety stop is needed. I know that losing the otter during a dive has far worse consequences than 'can I sleep with myself' (which I guarantee I would be doing exactly that... in the dog house). There really is no excuse for losng a buddy during a dive. Both need to be conscious of the whereabouts of the other at all times; else you're not being buddies and you lose the safety redundency a buddy brings to the table.
