You don't need contacts if you can focus 5" from your face. You may be OK. Most myops can pull it off. You're welcome to try mine if you're ever on a sea divers boat with me.

I've worn mine for several years now, on hundreds of dives. I've gone back to a flat mask a couple times and I really don't like it. I'm not sure I would wear contacts to wear the hydrooptix mask, but i might.
