Kelp Boating Hazards

Can anyone out there tell me how much of a hazard kelp poses when boating at night? There are some spots I want to dive at night from my boat and I can plot a course on my GPS to avoid the fish-trap floats but of course there's always loose random kelp floating around out there. How badly can this damage a prop or will it foul it altogether? I would appreciate any advice.
