After smashing & thrashing a test tube light head during a beach dive (got rolled in the surf zone by a rogue wave at Vets Park), I'd recommend staying with the fully enclosed design --as a wreck diver, I usually find that I'm inadvertently banging it into railings, stanchions, posts etc. while laying/reeling in penetration line-- much more durable than the exposed test tube head design.

Look into the Dive Rite MR11 non-focusable enclosed head as a replacement for the kludgey Halcyon. . .
