No, it sounds like you don't understand the volume discounts your chain gets.

You guys are paying $83 for a tank w/valve but you likely order them by the pallet or truckload. Most stores get them for anywhere from $90-110 since they're ordering only a few at a time. (And the price has gone up since January 1.)

If a store has a price-matching policy, they could certainly be in a position where they're making $10-20 on a tank. If they give a 10% club-member disocunt off the $119, then they can lose a couple of bucks.

It has nothing to do with being "well-connected". That was either a cheap shot at Jim or simply a not-well-thought-out comment.
