Massed squid (or most any fish)certainly can read that way on a fathometer.

I would suggest anchoring down off the steps at Vets, but for god's sake keep a sharp eye out for any divers on the surface. Even though a diver hit by a boat is probably initially way more exciting than a squid run, ultimately it really is a downer. ;)
