Did he lie? You might just have higher expectations for something he is just trying to get rid of.

If I were selling old AL80's on CL, I would expect to get $20 for either $30 for both.
I would imagine that writing down all those confounded numbers and then typing an e-mail would be twice as much work as I would be willing to do.

Last time I put anything on CL I got 200+ e-mails in the first hour.
I answered the first one with "You are the first to respond, you have got 24 hours to come and get it, or it goes to #2".
