Your generic question would be answered generically that visitors should probably go to Catalina. It's easy and pretty.
If you like wrecks though, you should go to Wreck Alley in San Diego.
If you are good divers and like the exotic, then you should go out of Santa Barbara with Truth Aquatics to the Northern
Islands for some lush diving.
If you are photogs, you have to try to get to the rigs.
We have 1000 miles or so of coast line, 8 large islands, beach dives, canyons and many assorted rocks to visit. You'll have
fun, but try to pick what is best for you. Look at the dive
boat guide on this site and check their schedules. Look here
