some photos from this weekend, including lingcod eggs |
Posted by scottfiji on February 21, 2007 at 09:56:07: After a week-long dry spell (too long!), I had quite a few nice dives over this past weekend. conditions were especially good friday & saturday. On saturday I found a lingcod guarding its eggs, first time ever seeing fish eggs underwater.. from Redondo Beach juvie Plainfin midshipman, hovering in the water column. lots of these guys were out last night, usually they dart into the sand, but a couple stayed still if you approach them slowly. this was on of the larger ones. the adults can be huge though! Sailing octopus, 95ft depth from Marineland Hedgehog hydroid, very close up from Buchanon's Reef: Male Painted greenling. we saw many of these courting the females. Monterey dorid, brittle stars Lingcod guarding his eggs Lingcod eggs, guarded by the lingcod above - do not touch! from the Wreck of the Avalon: Doriopsilla spaldingi
