We’ve got a new wrinkle for the event this year . . . and it’s a book.

As you my have noticed from the logos that we’re using for both the daytime and evening events this year, we’ve transitioned from our tile logos of past years to a photographic look this year. And we’re going to be continuing that theme in something we think is really going to become a keepsake, which we’re calling (working title, anyhow): "Through the Lens: A Chronicle of Chamber Day 2007."

Simply put, it’s a photographic record of the entire day in book form that will be available for purchase. We anticipate the book being approximately 80 pages, with full-color glossy pictures, and text about the event and history of our Chamber. Cost after May 2 will be $75 but for anyone who purchases the book before the end of Chamber Evening, it can be yours for only $65.

Best of all, this is your chance to have your pictures published in this book. We invite anyone who’s participating in Chamber Day or Chamber Evening to submit photographs for inclusion in the book. The only caveats are that the images have to be in digital form (they could be scanned from slides or prints - but we cannot do the scanning for you) and they must have been taken on May 2, 2007. Everyone who submits images, regardless of the number submitted, will be entered in a special raffle.

While we intend to have lots of underwater shots, the book will chronicle events of the day both above and below the water. This means you don’t have to have an underwater housing to become part of this book since we’ll need topside pictures as well. The areas we anticipate covering are:

  • Loading up/boarding
  • Traveling to & from Catalina
  • Groups & participants
  • Diving (OK, for this one you DO need an underwater housing)
  • Walking tour at the Chamber
  • Chamber Evening at the Aquarium of the Pacific
Our goal is to provide not only a high-quality book that you’ll be eager to share with family and friends, but also something that includes as many participants as possible. To that end, we hope to include:
  • A historical overview of the Chamber
  • Logos from al the previous Chamber Days & Eves
  • Pictures of each boat at the Chamber dock with the divers on board
  • Logos from each of the table sponsors for Chamber Evening
  • Pictures from each table sponsor at Chamber Evening
Our plan and hope is to do a very quick turnaround on this and have the book available by June 1, just in time for the Scuba Show. Because of that goal, we’ve got a pretty tight timetable for those who want to submit shots. So here are some of the guidelines (full detailed info is available at www.chamberday.org):
  • Submitted images must have been taken on May 2, 2007
  • Images must be submitted in JPG format
  • Images should be no more than 1000 pixels tall (For any images chosen for the book, we’ll need the full-sized original file)
  • File sizes on submitted images should be no larger than 1MB
  • Scanned images from slides or prints are fine, but we cannot do the scanning for you
  • All images must be submitted no later than 5PM on May 8
  • Images can be submitted via e-mail (attachment), uploaded via FTP, or by mail (CD)
  • Photographer grants the Chamber permission to use the image in the book
  • Photographer retains all other rights to the images
  • Images for the book will be chosen for the book based on quality, subject matter, & uniqueness
  • All decisions of the image selection committee will be final
  • Images not chosen will be deleted from our files
  • All images selected will include a photographer credit
We’re very excited about all of this and think this is really going to become something you’ll feel you MUST have if you did the event, and something you’ll want to have even if you weren’t able to attend.

Best of all, the monies raised from the sale of the book will go to help fund our Chamber. So not only do you get a unique record of the day, but you’ll also get the satisfaction of knowing that you’re helping to keep our Chamber available on a 24/7/365 basis.

So be sure to save $10 and order your copy of "Through the Lens: A Chronicle of Chamber Day 2007" now. You can order the book through our website (ChamberDay.com) or by calling 310/652-4990.
