I knew the rules were that a captain of a private boat could not make mandatory any form of compensation a requirement for right of passage but if a passenger offered as a gift or tip of gas money or lunch etc., that was ok as long as the captain didn't ask for it and would've given the ride regardless if the passenger offered anything or not.
