Because it's never really that cut and dry. I've been doing this annual event for several years and in the past almost all the people that showed up were veteran divers. This particular year a whole new bunch showed up. The person in question was shy and didn't really talk much. He was there already a day and a half and was friends with other people who I met for the first time.
I didn't really observe the situation until we were anchored and everybody was gearing up. I assumed he was buddied with someone because there was 4 divers. I had passing thoughts of [this guy seems weird to me] but didn't dwell on it. I figured he dove with the others because they were all friends. I wasn't going to tell him "Hey dude, I think you're wierd so you need to sit this one out".
So I guess it was bad judgement on my part. That's why I am leary now and posted this original thread.
