Body of Missing Mono County Diver Found

The Mono County Sheriff's Department says crews have found the body of a 41-year old California man who went missing after an ice diving accident in Gull Lake.

Deputies say Michael James Dahan of Thousand Oaks was taking part in ice diving practice Sunday. Dahan, an experienced diver and dive shop owner, was reportedly free diving without a safety line with a colleague. His fellow diver came up for air, but deputies say Dahan never resurfaced.

Search efforts began Sunday afternoon, and the San Bernadino County Sheriff's Dive Team arrived to assist Sunday evening. The search continued throughout most of the day Monday until Dahan's body was found around 5 p.m. Monday.

Deputies say Dahan is survived by his wife and two small children. An autopsy is pending.
