Dove Laguna at Divers Cove and noted numerous large bat rays resting in sand at 10 feet. One of the rays had his 5 ft long tail up in the air with both wings elevated off the sand, but stayed there and did not move as we slowly approached and stopped quite a distance away. Is this a defensive posture by bat rays when they are ready to strike, ready to fly away or what ? Anyone know for sure ? My understanding is that bat rays also have a nasty tail stinger too.
