Checking on Kodak further (motion picture film) - they recommend sending film via UPS or FedEx and requesting no x-ray (will be manually checked). I know this is little help as its after the fact, but it is an option for returning your film.

Some of those Mexican X-Ray machines look really massive - hope it turns out.
