(AP) JENNER Another scuba diver has died off the Sonoma County coast.

Authorities say 50-year-old Victor Smith of Petaluma drowned Sunday morning while diving near Stillwater Cove Regional Park, about 16 miles north of Jenner.

A helicopter rescue crew from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department, lifeguards and a friend all tried to rescue Smith.

Authorities say efforts to save Smith were hampered because he had become wedged underwater by a rock.

Smith is the fifth diver to die this month in the waters of the North Coast. Four others died in separate incidents while searching for abalone along the coast.
