Howdy all,

We had a fun day of diving out at Catalina yesterday - there's a veritable explosion of hermissenda crassicornis out there! Jeff had the macro lens all day, and snapped a bunch of nudi and snail shots. We've got a few puzzlers that I could use some help with.

Up first, something that might be a blue top snail, but is so covered with algae we can't be sure. It seems to have a black stripey mantle, which I thought might be helpful for ID purposes:

Snail #1

Next, something similar to a Kellet's Whelk snail, but the colors seem funky:

Snail #2

Finally, something that isn't a snail - might be something a snail left behind, though? These things were about 6 inches across, and either formed of sand or covered in sand; can't tell:

Mystery Sandy Thing

Thanks for any help!
