As promised, the book “Through the Lens: A Chronicle of Chamber Day 2007” will make it’s debut at the Scuba Show this weekend. You can come by the Chamber booth (#755) to take a peek and buy one for yourself. The total price is $75 ($35 for the book plus a $40 donation to the Chamber) and we’ll have them available for you to take home with you.

The amazing thing about this is that the full-color, high-gloss softcover book has been produced from start to finish in 30 days. With the exception of the historical shots and the logos, ALL of the pictures taken in the book were shot on May 2 this year during either Chamber Day or Chamber Evening. And the book committee (Ken Kurtis, Ken Niles, Linda Gorman, & Betsy Suttle - not to mention Karl Huggins) has been hard at work to get this done on time.

The book contains 212 photos (culled from over 1500 shots) submitted by 43 different photographers. The photogs are (in alphabetical order): The photographers, for submitting their images—John Alger, Denise Baca, Rusty Berry, Malcolm Boyd, Jeff Bozanic, Katherine Brown, R. A. Buck, Deborah Butt, Tom Carr, Neil Elguezabal, Marta Evry, Beth Goldfarb, Hal Greenberg, Sara Greer, Karim Hamza, Ken Haraikawa, Bob Harkins, Ruth & Larry Harris, Susy Horowitz, Elaine Jobin, Debbie Karimoto, Jim Kubala, Kathy Kubala, Ken Kurtis, Adam Lau, Kevin Lee, John Lumb, Scot Mathis, Wendy Melill Taylor, Tony Mischel, Carrie Olson, K. Kalani Patterson, Gen Rosenthal, Bob Sanders, Dale Sheckler, Donna Shelley, Pat Smith, Peter “Hopper” Stone, Sharon Wallin, Heather Wilson, Carol Yin, and Lindy Yow.

The book is a complete record of Chamber Day 2007 from sun-up to the end of the Evening. Plus there’s an overview of the history of the Chamber from Karl Huggins, the history of the event from Ken Kurtis, and a picture of every logo from 1989 to present day. The book is divided into five sections: All Aboard, Dive 1, On the Island, Dive 2, and Chamber Evening.

“All Aboard” is much the pre-dive activities and also includes shots of every boat (along with passengers, captain & crew) arriving at the island. “Dive 1” is stuff that happened both above and below the water during the dive (as is “Dive 2”). “On the Island” shows what happened when everyone took their tour. And “Chamber Evening” chronicles the events that rounded out the day, capped off with the final check presentation.

In short, it’s a really cool book and even more special because of the amazingly short time-frame in which it was all put together. It’s something you’ll want to have once you see it.

And you CAN see it in the Chamber booth (#755) at the Scuba Show this weekend. (You can also still order them on-line.) Remember that the grand total will be $75 which is $35 for the book itself plus a $40 donation to the Chamber. We’re happy to put the book in your hands as long as supplies last and if we run out, we’ve already got the printer on stand-by to do a second printing for us next week. But once we get past this weekend, the plan is that’s it for availability. So if you want this book, you’ve got to act this weekend.

Not going to the Scuba Show? No problem. Simply go on-line to our secure website (www.chamberday.org) and order it through there. And for those of you who pre-ordered the book already, you can come by the Chamber booth (#755) to pick up your pre-paid copy.

We really hope you’ll like the book and we’ll hope you’ll feel it’s the must-have item that you simply can’t live without (which also means you’ll be further insuring the financial health of our Chamber).

See you at the Scuba Show!!!
