I don't know if there are any recent guide books. The ones I use are by E.Yale Dawson & published by the old Alan Hancock Foundation at USC in the 60s. They're scientific literature rather than popular photo guides. If you have it 5% formalin is better than 70% alcohol because alcohol immediately destroys the color, otherwise it's okay.
