What I suspect happened is Sport Chalet is trying to secure itself the cheapest charter prices in Southern California. (In a time of higher fuel costs, food prices, etc). Who will ultimately benefit from a lower cost charters? SPORT CHALET - not the Southern California Dive Community. (I wonder if sport chalet would even pass deep discounts on to its divers?)

My immediate reaction is to see their actions as damaging to the dive community in general, and, also to me personally. Well run and well maintained boats benefit me - even if I have to pay the going rate which would be higher than a "Sport Chalet" charter.

I hope that our boats speak out in unity against any purely selfish corporate motivations on the part of "Sport Chalet".

I've said my piece. They are not "indispensable" as a dive store - the internet is usually better stocked and has better prices (and service).
