KEY WEST --
A 23-year-old man died Sunday during a diving accident at a shipwreck in waters eight miles off Key West.

John Lumley was diving with two others to see the USS Curb at a depth of about 160 feet. They had planned three dives for the day from Lumley's boat.

During the second dive, Mark Woods, 46, and Michael O'Conner, 38, lost sight of Lumley momentarily, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office report. They found him minutes later with his regulator out of his mouth and unconscious.

Woods and O'Conner brought Lumley to the surface, but could not revive him.

He was pronounced dead at the Coast Guard station in Key West. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.
