Fact of life in California: If you have deer, you at least
occasionally have Mountain Lions. The cats are constitutionally
protected, modulo threats to humans and property.

They are fairly common. I twice found tracks on the property where
I used to work (a high-tech research lab). The guy I was diving
with TODAY had a cat kill a couple of his brush clearing goats
very recently. Another dive buddy of mine twice had cats closer
to his house than his kid's swing set.
