Ken,
Every diver decides for him/herself in the quest for and taking of bugs, but with resources under the pressure they currently are, it is just not ecologically sound or even cool to be taking the breeders. Bugs of the 8-plus pound size are prodigious breeders and except for the occasional Black Sea Bass, for the most part, have no natural predators capable of taking them except for divers. These “bulls” or “cows” are too big to fit into commercial traps, and the traps are built that way for a reason – to allow these breeders to reproduce without interference.

My respectful suggestion is that if you must capture one of the large sized bugs, take a picture and then release it. You’ll be able to prove your prowess to your buddies and help the resource to continue.

LET THE BIG BOYS & GIRLS LIVE!

Stay wet.
