Cabrillo boat launch is about a mile from the opening to L.A. Harbor. There are several good bug spots within two miles of the harbor, and the breakwater can be an excellent spot. The natural reefs begin at Pt. Fermin, about a mile and a half from the opening.
During lobster season there is plenty of parking in the boat launch area. During the Summer, it fills up early in the morning, especially on holiday weekends. They removed the washdown area a few years ago. Too many6 people were waxing their boats while making others wait for the water.
The Port Police patrol the area, but if someone wanted to break into your truck bad enough, they would.
